News about my favorite 12 year old...

Gerlynn lives in the precario neighborhood and we've been meeting for discipleship for about a year more or less. I've mentioned her before as a girl with a heart for God's word, as she reads the Bible every day. Her family situation is super tough. Her father is present when he wants to be and her mom works as a waitress to provide for the 7 of them.

Life is tough for Gerlynn.

Today, I went to visit her because I haven't seen her since my wedding. I was anxious to see her, after not seeing her for a month! I couldn't find her, so I went to her grandmother's house because she often spends a lot of time there. Her grandmother informed me that PANI, which is child services in Costa Rica, had come earlier that day to warn the family that if their kids miss more school, they will come to take them from their mother and put them in governmental facilities. They all miss quite a bit of school because their mom isn't there to enforce the rule, but if ONE of them continues missing school, the government agency will take ALL of them.

I'm overwhelmed with emotions from today. Anger, firstly, at a mother who would allow this to happen. Frustration at the other family members living next door that don't tell them to go to school. Upset that they might loose their family and life as they know it. Uncertainty..as I hang out with Gerlynn, if it will be the last time...But mostly...

I'm scared of loosing my disciple and my friend.

Please keep Gerlynn and her brothers and sisters in your prayers.

Pray that God would put them where they will know Him better and learn to love Christ. Will they know Him as their Father in the precario or in an orphanage? Pray that God's will would be done. Pray that I will trust Him.

They are His children.
